Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was founded January 16, 1920 in Washington, DC on the campus of Howard University by five women who we affectionately refer to as our "Five Pearls". Zeta Phi Beta is the first sorority among the traditional sororities to establish auxiliary groups. Zeta Amicae is an auxiliary established for adult women who promote the ideals of the sorority. The Zeta Youth Affiliates auxiliary is a mentor program comprised of students on the elementary, middle and high school levels. Below is an overview of the five (5) groups who make up our Zeta Youth Affiliates (ZYA) Auxiliary.
Pearlettes - 4 - 8 years old female youth group. First proposed in the Southern Region in 1991. At the Grand Boule 1994, the national body officially adopted the Pearlettes as the third national youth auxiliary.
Amicettes - 9 - 13 years old female youth group. Added to the Zeta structure at the 50th Anniversary Grand Boule in 1970 as the junior-high auxiliary. There are presently 150 Amicette groups. These young ladies demonstrate excellence in school and in service to the community.
Archonettes - 14 - 18 years old female youth group. Officially recognized in 1968 as the high school auxiliary. There are over 100 Archonette groups. These young ladies are high achievers who demonstrate the qualities of Finer Womanhood.
Gems --Boys ages 4—8 who are developing into young leaders. They work closely with the Pearlette youth group.
Gents I-- Males ages 9—13 and Gent 2 Males ages 14 -18. Initiated as Project SOS (Save Our Sons) in New Orleans, LA in 1989. It was renamed Gents in 1997. These young men take pride in excelling academically and in leading and serving others.
Youth participate in various activities such as the Juvenile Diabetes Walk, March of Dimes March for Babies Walk, Global Youth Service Day and many other activities in the community.
